GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

The Romanian language course aims to develop effective communication skills and to allow students to gain confidence in their ability to use the Romanian language in a wide range of daily situation. The emphasis is on a communicative method of teaching with classroom activities that focus on real life events, role-playing, conversation, vocabulary, and grammar exercises. The course will promote competence in the four skills of Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing, and concentrates on development of vocabulary and grammar. In the same time the students will acquire familiarity with aspects of contemporary Romanian life and culture. Students who successfully complete the course (both semesters) will be at the A2 level on the Common European Framework of Reference for languages.

ATTENDANCE

Attendance is compulsory. Absence exceeding 1/3 of the total class hours will not be tolerated

ASSESSMENT

Oral performance- based on regular informal in-class participation along with interpersonal speaking assessments and oral presentations.

Reading and listening performance- based on comprehension and vocabulary quizzes assessments given regularly.

Written performance- based on in-class exercises, homework written assignments, midterm exam and final exam.

Final assessment will be made on the following basis:

Final exam: 40%; Midterm exam: 30%; Active class participation: 20%; Homework written assignments: 10%
